It Would Have Only Taken A Minute....

I do like this photo
                        ...although

every time I look at it I think

"Karen, why didn't you take a minute to switch the cyan and yellow chairs?"

What's done is done and certainly not something to lose sleep over but it would have been a bit sweeter.

THE HEART OF WINTER

We're in the "heart" of winter and once again I ventured up to Gunstock for race day.  Today's race was for our youngest racers ~ just venturing out into the world of starting gates and finish lines.  As I walked around the clubhouse folks were enjoying lunch and warmup time before heading back out onto the slopes.

Ruth and Dan were enjoying a cup of cocoa together along with a last ski day for Dan as he'll head back down south tomorrow with his band mates.

The rest of the "crew" were young families with their children in the U8 and U10 enjoying the camaraderie of the ski club making new friends and childhood memories.

It prompted me to put together a quick slideshow of the warmth from within our little clubhouse.  You all made me smile today ~ brought back great memories of when my two boys were younger ~ and even way back to my days on the old rope tow at Bradford Ski Area.

So go ahead.....

and put a little ketchup on your mac n' cheese

and treat every day like it's RACE DAY!  (give it a click to watch)

"I Have Been Busy All Day"

A journal page written in Anna's hand on February 21st, 1898 .  Anna's words depicting daily life of a housewife and mother living in New England during the late 19th century.
When read by Judy Buswell her intrigue and research resulted in a written play that will be performed by her daughter Tamara McGonagle while narrated by Judy.
Performances will take place at the historic Belknap Mill on January 18-19.  Come by for an entertaining evening while you listen to Anna Samson Bradley's story.

Chasing the Winter Blues with a Doubleshot....

I was recently contracted to photograph the Michael Vincent Band up at the Flying Monkey in Plymouth.  Great group of young men ....livin' the dream and playin' the blues.

If you're in the mood to chase away the "winter blues" head over to Pitman's Freight Room in Laconia this Friday, January 18th for a combination of local, hospitable atmosphere at Pitman's and blues to warm your soul.

It's How I Was Raised

I arrived early for a shoot yesterday afternoon and was organizing gear in the back of my car.  As I did a young couple approached the car parked next to mine.  The gentleman opened the car door for the young lady accompanying him and then walked around to the drivers seat.  As he did I expressed to him that I liked what he had just done.  His response was thoughtfully said "It was how I was raised".  We both made each other smile and take pause for just that one moment.

Think about how you were raised....  I'm sure most were raised similarly.  As we grow older, busier and preoccupied do we always remember to "open the door" for others?  Keep in mind how such a small gesture is appreciated - sometimes with a hint of surprise as is it not expected but warmly received.

We are all guilty of closing the door at times.... thinking we'll "be right back"

A reminder to think about "how you were raised" and go ahead and open a few doors.

January in New Hampshire

Winter in New Hampshire is about as unpredictable as you can get.

Mother Nature enjoys toying with us.  She'll give us a blast of arctic air that chills us to the bone and then counters it with a bout of weather that hovers around the freezing mark so that by the time we get to 35 degrees or above we think it's Spring!

Makes for pretty pictures and defines our four seasons with a bit more clarity.
