Going Back To School

The annual Labor Day "Jamboree" had us entering third grade for our first day of school.
We gathered outside of Liberty Hill Elementary for registration and to meet our fellow classmates.
There was giggling while catching up with old friends and excitement while meeting new ones in the schoolyard.

Next summer we will be gathering for the 20th annual Jamboree on Liberty Hill.  We have been blessed to be a part of this event for the past 16 years and have enjoyed such an array of fun that is unique and special beyond words.  So much laughter and wonderful memories ~ cherished by everyone in the class.

Fireworks Like You've Not Seen Before

Just an interesting experiment with movement to create a "surprise"in a photograph

Most of these were 1 second exposures with varied movements of the camera.  Part of the fun was not knowing what you would come up with.

Light ~ Gesture ~ Color II

A weeklong workshop with Jay Maisel was an experience I will long treasure.  Throughout the week myself and 15 other students delved into why we shoot ~ how we shoot.  With notes from "The Monster" we listened and learned….

 Quotes were shared
One camera ~ one lens

We talked about taking full responsibility for everything in our frame.

Encouraged to walk slowly and make "our own" images.

Give a climax otherwise we will have wallpaper

Laden Inhibitions  ~ things frequently seen are less noticed

Creativity is a meandering road….

Have a reason for making the photograph

Everybody brackets ~ take your camera everywhere with you.  I don't want to see you without it.
Inclusion does not make a better picture ~ exclusion does.

  WHEN
and WHERE

You must take control of each of these two things

Putting in time is mandatory.
Fail….
fail again….
fail better

One of my favorite quotes from the week   "Most people do not listen with the intent to understand;
they listen with the intent to reply."

It is well known that Jay's reputation is one of a man who is "tough".  And that he is ~ but more importantly he is sincere, open and honest.

Interesting people make interesting pictures.  This guy is all over interesting.

Thank you!  It's going to be a pleasure having you over my shoulder
