A Simple Day Trip

 played like a
symphony!

Bandaloop is a dance company based out of California.  They don't come East often and I missed when they came last year.  Almost didn't go this time - but so glad that I did!

They danced with grace on the side of the Westin Hotel
making their every move seem effortless and fluid

It was truly a treat to watch.

Who would have guessed that such a simple day trip would continue into a night to remember...
I have wanted to see Tony Bennett in concert for years and this is
my year!

Stormy Seas ~PI 2

We will all react differently during stormy seas
I choose to channel the storm through a calm eye

the best way to describe this day was "angry" in nature
we didn't bring the anger - it was present
certainly you must defend yourself and stand strong
you also have the ability to see
with a calm and rational eye

Collateral Damage ~PI 1

Through every storm
there will be
collateral damage.

We may be forced to bury something precious

bury it
with dignity
through kindness.

Rooted

Sitting at my desk looking at out at the fog early Saturday morning
I was being drawn outside
At first I thought I'd venture out to the front lawn
but no - once again I was drawn out
my back slider

I've taken many photos of this area of our back yard over the past few years in this fashion.
Slow shutter speeds - panning action
I hope to, someday, put together a book from these photos ~ out the back slider

Strength in Your Convictions

Two photos taken approximately one year apart.
They were each part of a personal project done with my friend and fellow photographer Cathy.
We call it ONE WORD
We take turns choosing a word and come up with a photo to share.

   Rhythm                                                                  Fierce

We were talking just the other day after sharing our latest photos how this project has turned into so much more than just the photography.  Being a photographer is a great way to express who you are - how you feel - what your convictions are.
You learn - you grow - it's freeing.

The first photo was a result of having Mohs surgery for basal cell cancer.  I have had previous bouts with skin cancer and need to be vigilant in my annual skin checks.

The second photo is more playful in nature.  I had seen a pair of "Wonder Woman" socks while out and about and bought a pair without any plan on how they were to be photographed.  When Cathy picked "fierce" it just fell together with humor.

I am one who is strong in my convictions, to a fault at times.

It's who I am - it's how a feel...
We beat to the rhythm of my own drums and hopefully stay strong in our convictions.

Blowing Steam

My assignment was to head up to Lee's Mill in Moultonboro for the annual Steamboat Race.
A New Hampshire tradition that's been being bringing this group of folks together for decades.  They come from far and wide; all across the US and from "across the pond".

Plenty of fuel was seen on and around the docks
Joe was loading up his boat for the trek over to 19 Mile Bay in Tuftonboro
Kent releasing some pressure....
Dave steaming along the shore
I don't think we could have had a more beautiful day to be out on Lake Winnipesaukee
This copper plated firebox with steam engine on the Phoenix kept us running along at about 6mph
Arrival into Tuftonboro meeting up with other steam boating friends

Second Mate John  kept us navigating on the straight and narrow
First Mate Kristie prepped lunch in the firebox and had it all ready upon arrival at the dock
Captain Clem with a twinkle in his eye and a bit of Phoenix Firewater made for smooth sailing and a purely delightful day....

As a freelance photographer my job takes me to places that allows me to meet folks I may otherwise never have the opportunity to cross paths with.  When Clem, Kristie and John invited me to join them on board their steamboat the "Phoenix" for the trek from Moultonboro to Tuftonboro I gladly accepted.  Certainly I could have come up with a few reasons as to why I shouldn't take the time out of my work day.... but then again I could come up with more reasons to accept their hospitality and go.
Life is meant to be experienced
generosity it meant to be given
people all around you are ready to become your friends

Reminds me of a quote from Jay Maisel...
go out open

One Word ~ Fierce

Once again I found myself in front of the camera trying to come up with a photograph for our personal project "ONE WORD"

The word was fierce

I had seen a pair of Wonder Woman socks while out on assignment recently, smiled and thought "I need to find a pair of those."  Got to love Amazon.com ~ two days later voila!

When Cathy chose the word fierce the two merged into my concept for a portrait.

I had quite a bit of fun with this one.  Used a fan to give my "capes" life.  Placed a few lights and I was under way.  Certainly not solving any world problems but absolutely throwing in some thought and purpose.

At the end of the day don't think you have to be Wonder Woman ~ use your courage to be fierce in your convictions.

Kick Off Your Shoes....Be Comfortable

...and don't be afraid to show some color.

Together with girlfriends for a "pedi".  This
was a first for me.  We stepped up into our "pedi thrones"
and were soaked and buffed and prettied up!

Light chatter with laughs and tickles.

Once we were all done we sat and relaxed in the rocking chairs out on the front porch and talked.
We had some "stuff" to "buff" off you could say.

Life is like a pair of shoes.  You do need to wear them
a good part of each day.  They can be restrictive and aren't
always 100% comfortable.  So when you get the chance
to go barefoot -do it- it really does feel good.

Share your colors with those you love...
kick off those shoes
be comfortable

Island Bound

Another trip back to Monhegan Island

Waiting for the ferry out of Boothbay Harbor

...a bit of chop as we weave our way through the lobster traps.

Blue skies with the warmth of the sun topside

Arrival at low tide

Great day for hiking the Cliff Trail over to Burnt Head

First stop Monhegan Brewing Company for a sampling....
next stop The Fish House for a Lobster BLT

Just enough relaxation time before heading back to mainland.
