Transitioning to the Next Stage

My first assignment to start off the day was a trip to Monkey Trucks Aerial adventures with a group of students from Newfound Bridge Academy.  A bonding experience giving them the chance to get to know one another before they start their freshman year of high school.

Such a wonderful group of young adults - working together and having fun.
Accepting the challenges that were before them

successfully transitioning to that next stage.

Making Sunshine

One Word project   HEAT

Had it in my head to capture the summer sunlight in some way.  After giving it some thought I figured I would make my own sunshine to give myself more of a challenge.

Set up two flashes each with a warm filter pointing directly towards me with the camera at my back set up on a tripod.  Getting the "light" to hit just right was not an easy task with me facing away from the camera.  Many outtakes on two separate attempts I finally came up with an image I was happy with.  Not perfect by any means but happy.  I learned through the process and that is truly what this process is all about ~ so for that I'm pleased.

… bring on the HEAT!

The Strength of a Dancer

I have always admired the strength and composure of a dancer.
Ella has that strength combined with beauty and poise.

We worked together early Sunday morning and came up with some wonderful poses
 including some jumps showcasing and
capturing Ella's natural beauty combined with the beauty that surrounded us on this summer day.
Static poses  ~ leaps into the water
and topping the morning off with a little funk.
Had a lot of fun collaborating and combining each of our passions to make these images come to life.

Beautiful young lady ~ beautiful morning spent along the waters edge.  Life is Good!

Oldies….. but Goodies

There are those times when you see words and they are the photo;
This was one of those times.

RJ humored me when I asked him to "go sit in that chair"
To me it just begged to be photographed.

He dubbed himself "King of the Odds and Ends"
When photographers unite with our quirky sense of humor
it makes for a fun afternoon and fun pictures to go along with the mood.  Thank you, King RJ ;)

Music to my Ears ….followed by pure Joy

Headed out for a "shoot day" on the other side of the lake stopping in Wolfboro.

Quite a charming community that bustles during the summer months with access by land or by water.

Wonderful old time charm and quintessential New Hampshire vibes have been welcoming visitors bringing generations of families over the years.

Found these youngsters hanging around down by the docks.

On the north end of Main Street
a piano sits just waiting
for someone to take a seat
and play a tune.

 plenty of folks obliged
filling the street with lively song

a summers day
….a playful tune

followed by pure "JOY"
in the flavor of chocolate!

What to Read of It

I'm happy to say that I've worked up quite a collection of books relating to the craft of photography.
They are easily understood and enjoyed in my down time.

Words ~ pictures ~ paper ~ binding

creative thoughts ~ ideas ~ knowledge ~ understanding

Don't we all have days that we wish could be read from a book to get the understanding we need
instead of being completely confused and reading too much into it with no book in sight

words to chew on

Not A Keeper ~ in the conceptual sense only

One word project ~  the word
REACTION

Immediately a facial reaction came to mind and I pushed it away not wanting a "typical" thought process on this image.
So instead my thoughts turn to more conceptual ideas
and I let them take root and blended them with some props and techniques that I don't usually work with.  In this case a neutral density filter to block out several stops of light enabling me to give a blur to the flow of the water and fish netting.
The idea of a brook shoot has been in my head for a while and this I will definitely revisit on another outing.  It was a little weird…. somewhat embarrassing…. a bit creative….but a whole lot of fun through the process of making this image.

And to boot I got a great "reaction" when I shared for the One Word project.

My disclaimer:  no feelings were hurt in this image   ….and I wasn't thrown back!

Instance of Creative Laziness

4th of July Fireworks are a tradition.  We gather with friends and enjoy a colorful display from their yard.  As our kids have gotten older we don't venture down into the throngs of the crowd - but rather stay put and enjoy good conversation, laughter and a "sparkler" or two.

So at about 1 minute until 10 we gather together and watch the display.  Many times I find my laziness gets the best of me and this night was the case.  My tripod remained in the car but the camera still joined at my side.

I present a few resulting images reflecting the instance of my creative laziness….

I call this series      Ebb and Flow

You can feel the movement but when looking at the images but our brains do not conjure up the recognition of traditional fireworks ~  instead feeling soothful movement reflecting incoming and outgoing phases of color and light.

This next series I call       Effervescent
Not quite sure if I was doing anything differently with this series than the one prior.  Most likely it had nothing to due with me ~  but rather entirely due to the individuality of each blast.

These offer a livlier sense of effervescent and sparkle that you don't notice during the actual display in the night sky.

I love these kinds of experiences where trying something different will produce a completely unexpected result.

...enjoy the surprises it offers.
