Getting Comfortable in Portraiture

I'm realizing more and more the importance of making someone "comfortable" in front of my lens.  For some this comes naturally and other times I'm the one that needs to coax it out of my client.
I'm realizing that as I become more "comfortable" as a photographer I'm able to mirror that feeling to my client and guide them into a pose that is comfortable for both of us.  Feeling natural and relaxed comes with a trust that you build in a very short period of time.
I love all aspects of photography but lately am finding this type of work rewarding and eye opening ~ tapping into a creativity that changes each and every time out.

What's All The Buzz About?

An opportunity to visit with Barry and learn about his Honey beehives.
 A community over 10,000 strong....
 busy as could be
Filling cells with honey to get through the long New Hampshire winter
It was a "smokin' "  afternoon for sure!

Polished and Proper

Headed "downtown" on Saturday to an inaugural Coffee Festival.  Main Street was closed to vehicle traffic and instead was bustling with people and vendors enjoying some aspect of coffee on what was a splendid fall day.  I so thoroughly enjoyed seeing the vibrance and activity happening in these streets that are too often quiet and truly hope that activities such as this become commonplace.

As I was standing in line for my iced coffee I noticed this barbershop right in front of me.  As a photographer I find that I become drawn into a scene on occasion and the gravitational pull can't be ignored.  This was the case with the Polished and Proper Barbershop.  This first image I took standing outside the window - you could say I was salivating but already had my iced coffee in hand so thirst had been quenched.
But the draw to go inside was strong and with an invite from the owner Breanna - inside I went.   It was dark and rich and these two young men just fit so perfectly into the scene it was like a caffeine high without the caffeine!

And while I'll be the first to admit I have a long way to go with my photography....for this brief little step back in time I felt "Polished and Proper" and quite happy with the images I took.  And am certainly looking forward to my next visit "downtown".

I Love My Girlfriends....

as most women do.

I plant a little seed and send an open invite to come on over to "play".  They are only given a brief idea of what's in store.   When we put our heads together we start putting the pieces together.  With these types of shoots I really only provide a spark

it's our combined enthusiasm that makes the sparkle.   We laugh until our sides ache...
...play dress up ....and take turns setting the auto timer and making adjustments.  Working together to get our positioning fine tuned so that we're connected.  No connection ~ no photo in my book.
And if I say so myself we rocked it.....     50 and fabulous ladies     Love Ya!

Early Morning Trail Walk

Such a beautiful spot to enjoy a foggy start to my day

and this guy visited with me twice.  First time he surprised me and caught me off guard
....but the second time I was ready for him and "caught" him as he flew by

steamy...misty mornin'

Portsmouth Waking Up

reading about
 the world around us
