Up the Road Aways Over the Border

In celebration of our 34th wedding anniversary Jim and I headed north over the border into Canada.  Close to home combined with a lovely french flair and charming hospitality.

The warmth of the October sun,
a bright blue sky with a
brisk breeze on the lake

I'm thinking this laundry on the line sums up our "feeling" of the day.

Hanging out - feeling fresh!!

As we meandered our way back to the shanty we were greeted with the

warmth of the sun that followed us all day...

a cozy spot
...a day well traveled

that comfortable feeling of spending time together
to breathe and fly!

Marriage of Light and Shadow

This carriage house located on the north tip of Lake Massawippi offered us a charming lunch spot.
Built in 1900 you can't help but think about her history and ponder stories from visitors years past.

Part of the fun of traveling is not knowing what is around the next bend.  Heading east from North Hatley offered us nothing in the way of main highways.  Much to our delight - off the beaten path is definitely more our style.  Driving by this church brought a smile and lovely reminder of our reason for our getaway.

After a day of exploring it was a nice feeling to
come back "home" to such a warm and inviting space.
Modern conveniences included - press of a button.

Fireplace on!

May Your Flame Burn

Ripplecove
we could easily see where she got her name

The old inn at the south shore of Lake Massawippi
on a beautiful fall evening as the sun was about to set.

The flame caught in motion describes what a good marriage is.  Each of us a unique individual allowed to be ourselves...
brought together we burn ever brighter!

Legends of the Lake - Part II

New England Boating Magazine featuring Jack Irwin
Legends of the Lake ~ Part II

This "Legends of the Lake ~ Part I" featured Mr. Merrill Fay over this past summer and Part II now focuses on
Mr. Jack Irwin.

A true Lake Winni icon who has been an integral part of lake life throughout his lifetime as well as his father and sons.

From the dance hall days where his father Jim Irwin brought "all the name bands" to the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee at Irwin's Winnipesaukee Gardens to their marina and boat dealership on Paugus Bay operated now by his son Bill.

Pick up a copy and give it a read.
You can go back in time and relive
some of those good old days.

And if you happen to run into Jack I'm sure he'd be more than willing to share a story or two.

A "Zip a Dee Doo" Day

A spectacular fall day in our "back yard".  Crisp air and bright blue skies.  We ventured over to Gunstock for a little zip lining and coaster cruising as a treat from our son Chris.  It's fun to play "tourist" in our home town.  We have so much to be thankful for each and every day!

Me thinks Jim may have momentarily lost some of his zipity doo...
But then again, nope,  once Chris was locked in they were off like a shot racing to see who could hit the first platform ~ first.

Gunstock is a true gem in our community.  If you haven't spent any time here - you should make it a point.  Whatever the season - as we see it - a treasure for sure!

We were reminiscing about the times spent up on the mountain top when Jim was building these platforms for Gunstock a few years back.

Second chance for a head to head between Chris and Jim.

It's certainly a thrilling start to the ride jumping off that platform...

3   2   1
off like a shot.
Can't beat that view and the smiles  -

priceless!

Pumpkins ~ Pumpkins

The annual Pumpkin Fest takes over the streets of downtown Laconia bringing a sea of pumpkins and visitors to the area.

From vendors to food trucks the streets were alive!

Pumpkins on display from our area school children bringing along with them humor and fright.

A young lad was sizing up his competition as others were carving out faces to add to the Tower.

From pumpkin dogs to corn dogs....

Tractor pulls to Duck races....

It was our vibrant downtown filled with folks having a great time!

A Moon Shadow

I always feel a sense of delight when I look up and see the moon rising.
Dusk falls and illuminates her contours in such a beautiful light.
This night was a crescent moon

The word "crescent" derives from the Latin term
ceres
 meaning to"bring forth, create"
and crescere,
the Latin term for "grow, thrive"

I would say that sums it up nicely!

A Walk with Kathryn

I met Kathryn about 7 years ago - as a young girl.

I was doing a family session out on the lake and she eagerly joined in the fun with her girlfriends.

We've seen each other over the years and I've watched her grow into a beautiful, young lady.

We planned on meeting over at Gunstock for a walk about to photograph her senior pictures.  She will be venturing off to college next year with a bright future ahead.

Even though I wouldn't call us close "friends" we are "acquaintances" with history.  Living here in the Lakes Region I've always felt that "small town" pull.  We are a community.

It suits me well.

While I enjoy visiting far off places I still love that I call home "home".

I'm looking forward to running into Kathryn again and hearing about her college adventures and beyond.

Time With Celeste

I recently had a special photo session with Celeste and her family.  We recreated some family memories in and around her home with her grown children and two dogs.

These photos became even more special as Celeste's older dog Jenna passed the following day.  When we had talked about booking a date Celeste described this session as a "gift" to herself.  She is a strong, vibrant, beautiful lady and I am honored that she chose me as her photographer.

After our family time it was just Celeste and I for some individual portraits.

We've known each other for years and even though we don't see each other regularly there is that bond of friendship and kinship.

I talk frequently about trust in my photography.  I believe it is one of the most important aspects of not only my work but in our everyday lives.

We moved about Celeste's home and with a little direction and conversation we were able to create some portraits showcasing Celeste - as the true "gift" to all of us that she is.
