In the Heat of Summer
A large part of my learning curve is through personal work. I've taken on the challenge of infrared after attending a workshop with Elizabeth Opalenik last summer. It opened my eyes to a whole new way of seeing. I'm in the process of learning how to visualize infrared light through practice days.
I'm looking for "models" who would like to work with me on this personal project. If you have an interest please do get in touch. The "heat of the summer" will provide an interesting experience I can guarantee you that!

Be Happy - Where You Are - Right Now
One of the most important things I've learned from our "one word" project is not to take myself too seriously. Some of the projects I come up with I would not have done in my younger years. Too self conscious - too insecure - too whatever!
As we age we become more relaxed - accepting of ourselves - and most importantly forgiving of ourselves.
When I came up with ME it was by opening up the dictionary and choosing a word from that page.
A random process that brought a smile to my face - knowing this could be a "fun one".
So when I look at this photo of ME I see a 55 (soon to be 56) year old woman who has realized that She Is Happy - Where She Is - Right Now. That in itself has made this personal project worth its weight in gold. When I'm able to share this experience with others -male and female- it really is a nice feeling.
Me
I am not wallpaper
I love vintage - going consignment shopping
I am soft - a hopeless romantic
I have a quirky sense of humor - sarcastic
I Am Happy
Where I Am
Right Now
A Jay Maisel quote that has stayed with me " ...most effective use of pattern is when it becomes interrupted. Otherwise, it gets to be like wallpaper"

The Only Thing That Was Lost Was One Game
State Championship matchup with Franklin and White Mountain. These athletes work together through the seasons practicing together to step up their game.
They make the plays...
and give it their all on the playing field. One will be named State Champion and one will be the runner up. All that really means is that you lost "one" game.
The bonds... the memories... the friendships that will last through the years ahead. That's the big win in my book. There were a few tears....
there were smiles and pride.
To your team - players and coaches and parents "Congratulations" in my book it's a day to celebrate!

Meeting People
Once again Motorcycle Week has arrived to the Lakes Region. Thousands of folks will make the trek to join in the fray of motorcycles, music, camaraderie and leather.
My job takes me out into our community and this is one of the favorite elements of my job. I get to meet people in the process of finding feature photos. This couple, Cyndie and Vance, traveling from Maine are first time visitors to NH for bike week. The interesting twist to the story is that the bike they are riding on has been a frequent visitor with Vance's dad ~ 17 years worth. Traditions carried on.
A first for Bike Week will be the Laconia Fest being assembled at the Weirs Beach Drive In Theater. Stages, VIP's music and lots of beer will be on tap for the week long music festival. These folks are checking the lights and sound along with chatter about "car 54 where are you?" Nope, I'm certainly not too young to remember.....
Fun crew --- good picture taking days!

Beautiful Women
I do believe every person is beautiful. I am fortunate to have many beautiful women in my life. My friend Deb is one of those women. She likes joining me on "photo shoot" days. We play grown up dress up and have fun making portraits. But more importantly we talk...we laugh... we embrace who we are as women. Indeed beautiful on every level.
The "one word" project's upcoming word is "ME". I'm looking forward to photographing "me" present tense. I had made myself a note a short while ago ~ "Part of me would like to be young again but a bigger part of me loves where I am right now".
It's a special feeling to share with a woman just how beautiful she is right here - right now.

Storm Chasing
I love a good storm - I don't know many photographers that don't. This one was rolling in and you could see that it was going to be a doozy. The rain hadn't come yet but the clouds were brazen and lightning feisty so I figured I should take a drive and see if I could come up with some interesting pictures.
Well, a few lightning bolts later the clouds broke loose and the deluge hit. So instead of throwing in the towel I rolled with it....
and managed to come up with something a little different.
It's such an eery feeling being in such a strong storm with large trees all around you.
Makes you feel so very small in this world.

Thoughtful Planning
Planning shoots is half the fun. I enjoy the styling part in the
beginning stages as I work out the logistics of a session in mind.
For this one I want to dabble in infrared portraits as well as color.
Thought it best to give it a trial run to see which looks will work with my ideas.
I was surprised with some and confident with my choice in
others.
Love the softness that the infrared with bring - as well
as the vibrance that the colors will hold.
Looking forward to a fun shoot. Of course, knowing me some
will get their turn at both!
enjoy,
k
