React

In life you are presented with what's in front of you.  Individually you will react to that in your own unique way; subconsciously.

As we were leaving Port Clyde after spending our day on Monhegan Island there were dozens of seagulls in front of us scattered on the road.  We commented on it and had a little chuckle.  In a moments time they took flight.  It was a startling sight to see.  Instinctually I reached for my camera set down by my feet and starting shooting.  A gut reaction to what I was experiencing.  Diane, the driver, slowed down so we wouldn't hit some of the gulls.  We each had a different reaction to what was presented in front of us.  Diane was keeping us safe - I was making a photograph.

Throughout our lives we "react" to what is presented in front of us.  Typically it is a gut reaction.  I have always trusted my gut.  Consequences have arisen due to my reactions.  At the end of the day though I would go with my gut again and again.

I wanted to crop this photo.  After a week with Sam Abell I did not.

In the Jungle the Mighty Jungle

A-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh, a-weema-weh

I have had the pleasure of photographing Emily in a quite a few unique photo sessions over the years.  So when she contacted me and presented the idea of a "lioness" I was all game.

There's a bit of "prep work" to build on our initial concept.  But mostly we tend to shoot from the hip and learn together as we go.  Emily brought her ideas on makeup and did a fabulous job of transforming herself into a strong lioness.  I put together some outfit ideas and props for the session.  My friend Cathy made a fabulous "mane" to add to the mix.

I knew full well Emily was one "lioness" that would not be tamed.

We worked around the yard and allowed her wild side to come out of hiding.

Threw a couple of black and white images into the ring for their dramatic effect.

....in the jungle the mighty jungle the lion sleeps tonight

Fireworks Pit Stop

Conversation with a friend this morning..... sometimes you want to leave your camera at home.

So true!  Tonight was our family mini golf night followed by a couple of beers at the Weirs Pier.  Good ol' fashioned family time.

On our ride home we were treated to fireworks being set off from Southdown across the bay.  Pulled into the Margate for a final "pit stop" to top off our evening.

Summer time fun with my men - Life is good!
